Somebody in the 239th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Sam Hartman, the No. 211 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Limmer pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Adisa Isaac at Round 2, Pick 27, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
They took Marist Liufau at par in the 87th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Cole Bishop in pick No. 123; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Beaux Limmer. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Malik Washington in slot 126 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They jumped the gun on Rasheen Ali, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Isaiah Williams is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Sam Hartman at slot 239 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nathaniel Watson at No. 245 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
