The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jake Slaughter, the Round 3 slot, roughly 42 picks past where he belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Campbell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They will replay Omar Cooper Jr. at slot 56 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Caleb Tiernan all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
D'Angelo Ponds in the 88th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jake Slaughter at pick No. 100 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Bryce Lance in the 124th overall pick, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Aamil Wagner a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
DJ Campbell at pick 166 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Dae'Quan Wright come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 22. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Diego Pavia, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy little value on Zavion Thomas in Round 7, Pick 24, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Noah Whittington in pick 245, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
