You build a draft on nights like this. Antonio Williams had no business being available in the 100th overall pick, and the Jaguars did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Somehow Keith Abney II was still sitting there in No. 72, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Eli Stowers still on the board at slot 81. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Jake Slaughter at the 88th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Antonio Williams at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Bud Clark at pick No. 124 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Kaytron Allen was the payoff at the 164th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Kage Casey in Round 5, Pick 26, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; DJ Campbell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Aaron Anderson in the 203rd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Thaddeus Dixon come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 17. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Lander Barton worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a tight end like Jaren Kanak reach the 245th overall pick and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
