The Chargers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 139th pick on AJ Barner a full 64 spots early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Quinyon Mitchell in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Leonard Taylor III in No. 106, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They left a pile of value on the table to take AJ Barner this early at slot 139. It fills a real need, too.
Jared Wiley in pick 183 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Isaac Guerendo at the 223rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josh Wallace at slot 256 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
