Somebody in pick No. 159 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Deontae Lawson, the No. 81 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If Thornton Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Trey Amos in pick No. 56 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Rylie Mills in the 88th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
They talked themselves into Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 125, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Deontae Lawson at pick 159 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid a round early for Miles Frazier in slot 199, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Aydan White at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Micah Morris at the 250th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
