You can hear the double-takes from here. The Dolphins took Joey Slackman at Round 7, Pick 8, roughly 51 spots before his name belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Hancock steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Harold Fannin Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 48th pick is lovely value for the tight end. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Barrett Carter in No. 98 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Quinshon Judkins in slot 114, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Lathan Ransom at the 133rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Connor Colby well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dont'e Thornton Jr. a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joey Slackman this early at the 224th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Hancock at slot 231 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A reach on Micah Morris in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
