Thirty-one other rooms let Carson Schwesinger slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at the Round 7 slot. Highway robbery. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They will need Trapilo to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Warren. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at pick 69 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A real head-scratcher, Ozzy Trapilo in Round 3, Pick 13 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value with a capital V on Jake Majors in No. 104, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Quinshon Judkins in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A safety of that caliber at slot 217 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Carson Schwesinger all the way to pick No. 220, and they scooped it up. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Thor Griffith. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
