Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Vikings were there to profit. Keionte Scott, the No. 61 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 97th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Kelly pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Job largely done: safety settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot.
A tidy bit of business in pick 49, where Dillon Thieneman graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Jake Slaughter in the 82nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Keionte Scott at pick No. 97 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They let Skyler Gill-Howard come to them and pounced at the 163rd pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Aaron Anderson at Round 6, Pick 15 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Miles Kitselman at No. 234. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Owen Heinecke at par in slot 235, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jack Kelly at pick 244 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
