Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Giants were there to profit. Domonique Orange, the No. 73 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 105. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They are betting Stephens proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a two-high chess piece at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Colton Hood is a better player than pick No. 37 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Domonique Orange reach No. 105 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Beau Stephens in Round 5, Pick 5; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Keagen Trost at par in the 186th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Kevin Coleman Jr. in the 192nd pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Red Murdock in slot 193 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Riley Nowakowski at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
