The search is over. The Giants handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. That Newton pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ladd McConkey in the 39th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Jonathon Brooks in No. 47, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Cooper Beebe in Round 3, Pick 15, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Brenden Rice for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They liked James Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 110. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value with a capital V on Josh Newton in pick 140, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Walter Rouse higher than slot 185, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Cedric Johnson in pick No. 199; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
