Call it larceny. Omarion Hampton sat on the board until pick No. 67, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A to show for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In the end it comes back to Jalon Walker, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
They will replay Jalon Walker at pick 46 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Somehow Isaiah Bond was still sitting there in slot 51, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A running back of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 3 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at the 77th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They read the board right and Jalen Royals was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Omarr Norman-Lott at No. 85 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Jayden Higgins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
