The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 69 spots for Dasan McCullough, and value like that does not grow back. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Kilgore. The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They did well to land Dillon Thieneman in No. 34, just ahead of his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Jacob Rodriguez slid further than he should have, and the 60th pick is lovely value for the linebacker. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Christen Miller in the 77th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Domonique Orange at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Logan Jones, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 129 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in slot 143, with Will Lee III worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the 154th overall pick, where CJ Daniels graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Keagen Trost in pick 195, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Jeff Caldwell at the 217th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A real head-scratcher, Diego Pavia in No. 221 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let Le'Veon Moss come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 10. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They went early on John Michael Gyllenborg in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board had Thaddeus Dixon higher than Round 7, Pick 23, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nolan Rucci in No. 241 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kalil Alexander this early at pick 246. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Dasan McCullough, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
