Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Carson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Harris Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
A conviction pick on Patrick Paul at the 36th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Edgerrin Cooper. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Xavier Legette in the 67th pick, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Bucky Irving at pick 100 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It fills a real need, too.
Caelen Carson at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Ben Sinnott at slot 141 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kaden Prather in Round 6, Pick 6 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donell Harris Jr. in the 223rd pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
