The Dolphins spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. No fireworks, but a solid B.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Phillips pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Steele has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get their guy under center for the next decade, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 53 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
LaDarius Henderson at the 158th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jared Wiley at Round 6, Pick 24 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
They jumped the gun on Carson Steele, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
