Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 151 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 31. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
Reaching for West left real value on the table behind him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Mack Wilson Sr. gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.16
· Pick 16
· Ashton Jeanty
· RB
· rank 2
In No. 16 they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12
· Pick 44
· Tyler Booker
· OG
· rank 40
A tidy little value on Tyler Booker in pick 44, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.15
· Pick 47
· Jihaad Campbell
· LB
· rank 41
Nothing to complain about; Jihaad Campbell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.12
· Pick 76
· Jordan Phillips
· DT
· rank 109
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Phillips in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.11
· Pick 150
· Savion Williams
· WR
· rank 93
They barely believed it either: Savion Williams still on the board at slot 150. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.31
· Pick 170
· Cody Simon
· LB
· rank 129
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 31 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.33
· Pick 172
· Lathan Ransom
· S
· rank 107
They will replay Lathan Ransom at pick No. 172 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.35
· Pick 174
· CJ West
· DT
· rank 213
This one needs a full-page explanation: CJ West in the 174th overall pick, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.12
· Pick 190
· Howard Cross III
· DL
· rank 214
They talked themselves into Howard Cross III at slot 190, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.33
· Pick 211
· Quincy Riley
· CB
· rank 171
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Quincy Riley in the 211th overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.31
· Pick 249
· Bhayshul Tuten
· RB
· rank 151
Circle this one: Bhayshul Tuten at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
