Dallas Cowboys

Grand theft in the Round 6 slot: the Cowboys steal Smith and grade out a A.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Brashard Smith got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at the Round 6 slot.

The Simon reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 21
In the 31st overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 25
They robbed the room for Emeka Egbuka here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 56
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Alfred Collins reach pick 76 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 65
They read the board right and Quinshon Judkins was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 17. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Sai'vion Jones · DE-EDGE · rank 137
They talked themselves into Sai'vion Jones at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.15 · Pick 117 · Jake Majors · C · rank 102
They let Jake Majors come to them and pounced at pick No. 117. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.17 · Pick 119 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 105
Dylan Fairchild at slot 119 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.27 · Pick 129 · Jordan Phillips · DT · rank 108
Circle this one: Jordan Phillips at No. 129 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.31 · Pick 133 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 86
Andrew Mukuba in pick No. 133 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Kurtis Rourke · QB · rank 135
Kurtis Rourke is a better player than No. 149 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Hayden Conner · OG · rank 212
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hayden Conner in the Round 5 slot, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · Brashard Smith · RB · rank 111
Somehow Brashard Smith was still sitting there in the 204th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 181
Jaylen Reed in the 211th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Joshua Simon · TE · rank 293
They reached a country mile for Joshua Simon at Round 7, Pick 23, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Cam Jackson · DT · rank 221
The board fumbled Cam Jackson all the way to pick 247, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
