You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Barryn Sorrell at the 211th overall pick, roughly 104 spots before his name belonged.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 9
In slot 27 they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 20
Nick Emmanwori in the 49th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Jordan Phillips · DT · rank 108
A wild overpay on Jordan Phillips in pick 76, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.27 · Pick 91 · Ashton Gillotte · DE-EDGE · rank 97
No drama and no debate, Ashton Gillotte went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 100
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in Round 3, Pick 33, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.15 · Pick 117 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 82
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Donovan Jackson in the 117th overall pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.1 · Pick 139 · Emery Jones Jr. · OT · rank 126
They let Emery Jones Jr. come to them and pounced at No. 139. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Will Howard · QB · rank 103
Will Howard at Round 5, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Davin Vann · DE-EDGE · rank 258
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Davin Vann well ahead of where he belonged. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R5.36 · Pick 174 · Bhayshul Tuten · RB · rank 153
They barely believed it either: Bhayshul Tuten still on the board at pick No. 174. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · Cobee Bryant · CB · rank 179
Steal is underselling it; Cobee Bryant at pick 204 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · Barryn Sorrell · LB-EDGE · rank 315
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Barryn Sorrell. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Clay Webb · OG · rank 244
A straight-up fair deal on Clay Webb at the 239th pick, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Kain Medrano · LB · rank 313
Kain Medrano at the 247th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
