You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Barryn Sorrell at the 211th overall pick, roughly 104 spots before his name belonged.
That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nick Emmanwori in the 49th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A wild overpay on Jordan Phillips in pick 76, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Ashton Gillotte went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in Round 3, Pick 33, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Donovan Jackson in the 117th overall pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Emery Jones Jr. come to them and pounced at No. 139. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Will Howard at Round 5, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Davin Vann well ahead of where he belonged. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They barely believed it either: Bhayshul Tuten still on the board at pick No. 174. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Cobee Bryant at pick 204 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
