You build a draft on nights like this. Darius Alexander had no business being available in the 171st pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Parr lower, and that gap is the story.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kaleb Johnson in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tai Felton at Round 3, Pick 12 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 117 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Jordan Phillips at slot 139 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Darius Alexander at the 171st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Dont'e Thornton Jr. was the payoff at No. 192. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Phil Mafah in the 204th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
