The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Every board in the league had Thomas lower, and that gap is the story. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
Simpson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Jayden Daniels at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Troy Fautanu enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 34. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at the 42nd pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Marist Liufau at pick No. 66 when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
No edge and no loss on Marshawn Kneeland in Round 3, Pick 37; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Luke Lachey at the 102nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Shemar Turner at No. 139 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Jaylin Simpson at slot 180 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Xavier Thomas in the 223rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
