Dallas Cowboys

A passer of the future in Sanders, and a D+, for the Cowboys.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Quinn Carroll at the 173rd pick is 72 spots clear of where he belonged.

They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here. Landing Skattebo that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Shedeur Sanders · QB · rank 4
In pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ashton Jeanty at the 12th overall pick is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 22
In pick No. 27 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 16
Nick Emmanwori slid further than he should have, and the 33rd pick is lovely value for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 43
Tyler Warren at slot 38 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 61
A conviction pick on Alfred Collins at No. 51 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 60
Good price on TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 3, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 69
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deone Walker in the 75th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 85
They paid sticker price for Danny Stutsman in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Antwaun Powell-Ryland · DL-EDGE · rank 152
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 94 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.1 · Pick 102 · Demetrius Knight Jr. · LB · rank 63
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 102 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.2 · Pick 103 · Maxwell Hairston · CB · rank 96
Maxwell Hairston in slot 103 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 115
By-the-book stuff, Daylen Everette at the 113th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Jaeden Roberts · OG · rank 155
A straight-up fair deal on Jaeden Roberts at pick 148, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 110
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach Round 5, Pick 33 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.36 · Pick 173 · Quinn Carroll · OT · rank 245
They left a pile of value on the table to take Quinn Carroll this early at No. 173. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
