Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Reaching for Crumedy left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Worthy in the 56th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Khyree Jackson in the 87th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braelon Allen in slot 102 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Johnny Wilson at No. 134 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Ty'Ron Hopper went about where he belonged in pick 173. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaden Crumedy at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
They did well to land Tyler Owens in slot 233, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ethan Driskell in Round 7, Pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
