Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys found their guy under center in Williams: F.

by nitebar · 2024 NFL Draft · 12 picks · 1 steals · 5 reaches
Value C+

Trades F
Future D

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.

Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. Powers-Johnson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.1 · Pick 1 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In slot 1 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
R1.9 · Pick 9 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 11
In pick No. 9 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
In pick 24 they get a cornerstone up front, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 61
Jonathon Brooks in No. 56 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
Value said wait; Khyree Jackson in the 87th pick says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Isaiah Adams · OT · rank 125
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Adams in Round 4, Pick 25, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Keith Randolph Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 158
Keith Randolph Jr. in the 133rd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 159
Braelon Allen in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 187
A reach for Jordan Jefferson in Round 5, Pick 36; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 183
They jumped the gun on Jaylan Ford, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 212
De'Corian Clark at the 213th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Isaiah Neyor · WR · rank 233
Isaiah Neyor in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
