They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Michael Pratt, 63 picks early at the Round 3 slot. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is McGlothern. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Worthy went about where he belonged in the 56th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Michael Pratt in pick 74, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Khyree Jackson in the 79th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at pick No. 87, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Braelon Allen at No. 111 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
They let Cedric Gray come to them and pounced at pick 133. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Beau Brade in Round 5, Pick 6, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
Braiden McGregor at the 158th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jordan Jefferson in slot 172 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach for Hunter Nourzad in pick No. 173; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a cornerback like Dwight McGlothern reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylen Harrell at the 231st pick is the proof. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
By-the-book stuff, Ethan Driskell at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
