When the story of this class is written, it opens with Michael Pratt at the Round 3 slot, a reach of 53 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Alt steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 26 they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 27 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value with a capital V on Jonathon Brooks in the 56th overall pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Worthy at No. 68 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Michael Pratt. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 26; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Marist Liufau at the 174th overall pick is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nelson Ceaser slipping to No. 180 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keith Randolph Jr.. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They talked themselves into Ryan Watts at pick No. 220, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Rasheen Ali at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Sam Hartman at slot 244 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
