The board owed the Giants one, and it paid up: Kalen King, the No. 41 name on the board, sitting there at the 108th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Put together, it is a D+.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The cost of the Cephus reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Cade Otton deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board fumbled Jayden Daniels all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Cooper DeJean was still sitting there in the 40th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Graham Barton at No. 47 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fair-plus on Ja'Tavion Sanders, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at slot 67. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Chris Braswell in Round 3, Pick 6 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 108 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Christian Haynes at Round 5, Pick 4 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tykee Smith in pick No. 141 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cody Schrader in the 184th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Jordan Jefferson at par in the 185th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Isaiah Davis in slot 195, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jared Wiley slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Sam Hartman at pick 230 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Joshua Cephus enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 234. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brian Ugwu at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
