Somebody in Round 6, Pick 11 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Giants sat still while Cole Bishop, the No. 108 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. If Dankwah pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Drake Maye in No. 11, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
In pick No. 15 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a security blanket over the middle, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Troy Franklin is a better player than the 39th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Jer'Zhan Newton at slot 47 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They read the board right and Payton Wilson was the payoff at No. 70. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Renardo Green at the 108th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Mike Sainristil was still sitting there in pick No. 140, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kamal Hadden at pick 185 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Cole Bishop at pick 186 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Jordan Travis at slot 187 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Mason McCormick in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Michael Pratt in No. 200 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They jumped the gun on Trey Knox, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Joe Milton III in the 224th overall pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
JD Bertrand in the 239th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A OT-EDGE of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 21 is the definition of value, full stop. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
They barely believed it either: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint still on the board at the 253rd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 7 slot, where Jordan Magee graded well above the range. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Value said wait; Anim Dankwah in the 257th overall pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
