You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Giants did exactly that with Caedan Wallace in the 156th pick. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here.
McCormick at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jayden Daniels in Round 1, Pick 13 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
In the 22nd pick they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 23 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A quiet steal in the 47th overall pick: Ja'Tavion Sanders for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 49 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Jaylen Wright in the 70th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Cooper Beebe was still sitting there in No. 83, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Max Melton in pick No. 107 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Brenden Rice in the 108th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Trey Benson at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kitan Oladapo at pick 129 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mohamed Kamara slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 5 is lovely value for the edge rusher. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Caedan Wallace well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Anthony Gould at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a cornerback like Nehemiah Pritchett reach pick 161 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Walter Rouse at pick No. 171 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Joe Milton III in Round 5, Pick 36 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value said wait; Erick All in No. 178 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 183 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing AJ Barner in the 184th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid a round early for Steele Chambers in the 185th pick, more than the board wanted. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No drama and no debate, Fabien Lovett went about where he belonged in No. 186. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Gabe Hall in the 187th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Knox in pick 188, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Magee at pick No. 189 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Malik Mustapha in slot 190 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on M.J. Devonshire in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Fair-plus on Brandon Coleman, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Myles Cole at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 196, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
