The rest of the league will want that one back. Jackson Powers-Johnson tumbling to the Giants in pick No. 101 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The Milton III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Jared Verse in No. 16, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
In No. 17 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Somehow Troy Fautanu was still sitting there in pick No. 47, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Kool-Aid McKinstry all the way to pick 48, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kamren Kinchens in the 49th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
J.J. McCarthy in the 52nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Junior Colson in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They jumped the gun on Christian Haynes, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Jaylen Wright in Round 3, Pick 3; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent slot 70 on Payton Wilson, a linebacker they were not short of.
A reach on Renardo Green in the 97th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Javon Baker in the 100th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Jackson Powers-Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Darius Robinson in pick 108 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Adisa Isaac at pick No. 117 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Theo Johnson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a wide receiver like Johnny Wilson reach No. 160 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Kamal Hadden went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Joe Milton III at pick No. 171 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Walter Rouse in the 178th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Erick All well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Isaiah Davis at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 194 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
