There is conviction, and then there is this. The Giants took Erick All a full 49 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The Wilson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a No. 1 receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 30 they get the arm they will build around, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 31 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Guyton in the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fair-plus on Edgerrin Cooper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Value said wait; Austin Booker in the Round 2 slot says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 66 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylen Wright at the 70th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Xavier Worthy is a better player than Round 3, Pick 7 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Max Melton come to them and pounced at No. 72. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Cooper Beebe in pick 95, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Spencer Rattler here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
T.J. Tampa in the 110th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Patrick Paul at slot 112 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Calen Bullock at the 114th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Trey Benson in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Sataoa Laumea still on the board at Round 5, Pick 4. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for AJ Barner at pick 152 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Erick All in No. 161 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steele Chambers in pick No. 163 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Gabe Hall in pick No. 185, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Johnny Wilson in the 207th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jontrey Hunter well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
