Somebody in pick 107 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Giants sat still while Adonai Mitchell, the No. 31 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Every board in the league had Wallace lower, and that gap is the story. Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 16th pick they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
The board had Drake Maye higher than the Round 1 slot, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
In pick 18 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Nubin at slot 47 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick No. 70 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Adonai Mitchell at the 107th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Cole Bishop in No. 108, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Zak Zinter in the 109th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Andru Phillips slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 10 is lovely value for the cornerback. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Will Shipley at pick 141 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Davis in No. 153, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Travis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A real head-scratcher, Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 6 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Trente Jones at the 183rd pick that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Luke McCaffrey at the 184th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Erick All in slot 192, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Myles Cole in pick No. 198 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Steele Chambers in Round 6, Pick 37. It adds depth where they could use a little.
