Nobody had Caedan Wallace this high, and it is not close. The Giants reached 56 spots to get him at the 157th overall pick. Put together, it is a D.
That McKinstry pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jayden Daniels. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
In pick 7 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 47 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Nate Wiggins at No. 70 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Kool-Aid McKinstry in pick No. 106 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cole Bishop in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Zak Zinter in No. 108 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mekhi Wingo at pick 109 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Ray Davis at pick No. 110, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Theo Johnson at slot 111 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Sataoa Laumea at par in Round 4, Pick 12, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Isaac Guerendo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cedric Gray at the 140th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled Blake Fisher all the way to the 141st pick, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Spencer Rattler at the 143rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Anthony Gould in the 146th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Caedan Wallace at pick 157 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steele Chambers at slot 182 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Walter Rouse at No. 183 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Gabe Hall at pick No. 185 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
