Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Giants were there to profit. Olumuyiwa Fashanu, the No. 8 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 3 slot.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.
The Green reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 17 they get their guy under center for the next decade, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
In the 18th pick they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 19 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They robbed the room for Brock Bowers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
A edge rusher of that caliber at the 40th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Drake Maye in pick No. 41 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Dallas Turner still on the board at No. 47. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Braden Fiske at the 56th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Olumuyiwa Fashanu at slot 70 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Christian Haynes in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing DJ James in No. 96. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in the 97th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Blake Fisher at pick No. 98 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Cole Bishop enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 36. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Renardo Green in slot 100, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Javon Solomon, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
They took Roger Rosengarten at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Audric Estime at pick 141 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Brenden Rice at pick 142 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Kamal Hadden in Round 5, Pick 37, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Nehemiah Pritchett in the 182nd pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Caedan Wallace in slot 186 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Joe Milton III at the 195th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Marcus Harris in No. 196 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
