Larceny in the Round 5 slot lands the Giants a D, Solomon and all.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Giants shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
Solomon falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will need Rattler to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
On the needs board they went 9 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
Nate Wiggins in pick 17 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Malik Nabers in the 39th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Brock Bowers at No. 47 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Laiatu Latu in pick No. 48 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
J.J. McCarthy in slot 49 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 70th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 71, where Chris Braswell graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Jonathon Brooks is a better player than Round 3, Pick 8 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Brenden Rice at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Spencer Rattler in the 80th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Zak Zinter went about where he belonged in pick 96. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Maason Smith at slot 108 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Tykee Smith in the 115th pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Khyree Jackson in No. 140 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Marshawn Kneeland here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Javon Solomon all the way to Round 5, Pick 17, and they scooped it up. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Circle this one: Sataoa Laumea at pick 154 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Joe Milton III went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Gabe Hall at slot 241 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
