Nobody had Anim Dankwah this high, and it is not close. The Giants reached 39 spots to get him at pick No. 238. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Baker falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Malik Nabers in the 7th pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
In the 8th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
JC Latham in slot 39 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Terrion Arnold at Round 2, Pick 14 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fair-plus on Edgerrin Cooper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in slot 70 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Andru Phillips at the 107th pick, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A quiet steal in the 120th overall pick: Isaac Guerendo for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Javon Baker still on the board at the Round 5 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Theo Johnson in pick 145. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Nehemiah Pritchett in No. 146, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Anthony Gould in Round 6, Pick 9 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Caedan Wallace at pick No. 185 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Jaheim Bell was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier tight end value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jordan Magee in pick 219 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They talked themselves into Anim Dankwah at No. 238, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
