It is the swing that defines the weekend: Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 8, a good 30 spots before the room expected him. Put together, it is a D.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. Tampa at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Jarran Reed leading the way.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 15th overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Value with a capital V on Marvin Harrison Jr. in pick No. 17, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Nubin at the 43rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Darius Robinson in slot 45 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Javon Bullard in pick 47. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in pick 60, with Jonathon Brooks worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like T'Vondre Sweat reach the 64th overall pick and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They jumped the gun on Kris Abrams-Draine, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Junior Colson still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
T.J. Tampa at No. 81 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Zak Zinter a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Javon Baker in pick No. 93 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Theo Johnson at slot 94 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Caelen Carson in slot 95 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Blake Corum higher than pick No. 96, and the running back fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Blake Fisher in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Cole Bishop in the 107th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Anthony Gould went about where he belonged in No. 141. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Caedan Wallace in the 183rd pick says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
