The Giants looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Anthony Gould at slot 134 regardless, 32 picks early.
So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They banked enough surplus on Nix to cover a lot of smaller sins.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a long-term answer under center, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
In pick 29 they get the arm they will build around at a price that makes it sweeter.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chop Robinson at the 30th pick is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 32 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Troy Fautanu in pick No. 39 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Graham Barton higher than pick 44, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Chris Braswell in pick No. 45, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 15: Tyler Nubin for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Worthy in the 52nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a linebacker like Payton Wilson reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow Bo Nix was still sitting there in the 66th overall pick, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Braden Fiske at No. 70. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Jonah Elliss went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in the 95th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Dominick Puni graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Theo Johnson at Round 4, Pick 13 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Maason Smith still on the board at slot 129. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Taking Cole Bishop in the 130th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Isaac Guerendo in No. 131 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
They read the board right and Tyler Davis was the payoff at pick 132. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anthony Gould in pick No. 134, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A conviction pick on Cody Schrader at slot 140 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on AJ Barner. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Mason McCormick at pick No. 164 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Kamal Hadden went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Caedan Wallace at Round 6, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Justin Eboigbe in the 179th overall pick, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalyx Hunt in pick 185. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
They talked themselves into Erick All at No. 190, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
