The Giants did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Braiden McGregor fell into the 253rd pick.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Guerendo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
In No. 16 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 17 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They will replay Jayden Daniels at pick No. 39 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Malik Nabers in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
T.J. Tampa at pick 70 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Junior Colson was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 8, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Renardo Green at par in the 109th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matt Goncalves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sataoa Laumea at No. 114 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Foster at pick No. 115 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Maason Smith in slot 140 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
A real head-scratcher, Isaac Guerendo in the 156th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 12, where Walter Rouse graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braiden McGregor at pick 253 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Trey Knox in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jordan Magee at No. 257 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
