You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Giants did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. The Nix pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They will need Kneeland to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 16 they get their guy under center for the next decade, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 17 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Nubin in pick 39 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 8, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Malachi Corley at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kamari Lassiter in the 62nd overall pick, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Marshawn Kneeland at the 70th pick that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Bo Nix in the 84th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Renardo Green at the 93rd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE while tight end keeps waiting.
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end to take Payton Wilson, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Zak Zinter at pick No. 98 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ricky Pearsall in Round 4, Pick 8 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Javon Foster at par in slot 120, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Tyler Davis in pick 121, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in slot 125, with Andru Phillips worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach for Brennan Jackson in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let Isaac Guerendo come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 10. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
