New York Giants

The Giants won the night they stopped Mustapha from sliding. Grade: A.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Malik Mustapha tumbling to the Giants in the 228th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. This is how you run a draft, and the A reflects it.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 10
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Jer'Zhan Newton · DL · rank 12
They will replay Jer'Zhan Newton at the 39th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 45
Devontez Walker at No. 52 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 54
They read the board right and Ja'Tavion Sanders was the payoff at the 70th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 46
Calen Bullock at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 82
Taking Mike Sainristil in pick No. 107 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Luke McCaffrey · QB · rank 141
They took Luke McCaffrey at par in slot 143, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 164
The board had cheaper options than Joe Milton III at pick 153, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.10 · Pick 185 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 146
Somehow Dylan Laube was still sitting there in No. 185, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · AJ Barner · TE · rank 193
Good price on AJ Barner in slot 198, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.8 · Pick 228 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 139
Malik Mustapha in the 228th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.15 · Pick 235 · Jalen Berger · RB · rank 206
Circle this one: Jalen Berger at pick 235 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
