You could see the war room lean forward. DJ James at the 171st pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
The cost of the Chambers reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 10 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.

In pick 24 they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Bo Nix at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 40 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in the 42nd overall pick, with Adonai Mitchell worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 67th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.

They paid sticker price for Walter Rouse in pick 170, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
