The board owed the Giants one, and it paid up: Tyler Guyton, the No. 27 name on the board, sitting there at Round 4, Pick 25 like a gift left on the doorstep. Put together, it is a D.
The whole projection now runs through Bo Nix; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. McCarthy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Bo Nix in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
In the 27th pick they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection.
Steal is underselling it; Cooper DeJean at slot 47 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a cornerback like Terrion Arnold reach pick No. 57 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Troy Fautanu at No. 58 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 59 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Adonai Mitchell at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Edgerrin Cooper at the 61st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Braden Fiske in Round 3, Pick 6 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Ladd McConkey was still sitting there in pick 88, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cooper Beebe slid further than he should have, and the 91st pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Jaylen Wright come to them and pounced at slot 92. The roster fit checks out.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 93 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Dadrion Taylor-Demerson for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Cade Stover in pick No. 107 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Guyton still on the board at Round 4, Pick 25. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Blake Corum all the way to the 141st overall pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Nehemiah Pritchett was the payoff at slot 150. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 183, where Kamal Hadden graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
