New York Giants

The Giants bet the future on Daniels. The board says D-.

Nobody else had Caedan Wallace anywhere near pick No. 166. The Giants did, by 47 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The McCormick pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the 6th pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
R1.7 · Pick 7 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 9
No edge and no loss on Rome Odunze in the 7th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 28
Taking Kool-Aid McKinstry in slot 47 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 53
Good price on Xavier Worthy in pick No. 58, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 55
Payton Wilson slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 6 is lovely value for the linebacker. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 71
Value with a capital V on Jaylen Wright in No. 88, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 74
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cade Stover at Round 3, Pick 26. It fills a real need, too.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Renardo Green · S · rank 78
A quiet steal in the 90th overall pick: Renardo Green for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
Calen Bullock at slot 106 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 97
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brenden Rice at pick 107 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 124
A slide stopped in No. 141, with Theo Johnson worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.6 · Pick 142 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 118
They robbed the room for Blake Fisher here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.10 · Pick 146 · Brennan Jackson · DE-EDGE · rank 155
The board had cheaper options than Brennan Jackson at the 146th pick, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 213
Caedan Wallace in pick No. 166 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 162
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Thomas in the 169th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Fabien Lovett · DL · rank 183
Fabien Lovett at pick No. 170 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.39 · Pick 175 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 199
A real head-scratcher, Steele Chambers in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
They paid up for Joe Milton III at No. 183 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 146
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 219 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · M.J. Devonshire · CB · rank 191
They will replay M.J. Devonshire at Round 7, Pick 19 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.20 · Pick 240 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 196
Jase McClellan in the 240th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
