Somebody took the Giants to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They are betting Barner proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Walker.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 19th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. A real need, handled.
Chris Braswell at the 47th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Roman Wilson was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Xavier Worthy reach pick 81 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylen Wright in pick No. 87 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in slot 88, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Cole Bishop in slot 89, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Patrick Paul in the 90th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Michael Hall Jr. at pick No. 97 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Trey Benson in the 98th pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Zak Zinter in pick 99 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Devontez Walker still on the board at Round 4, Pick 2. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cedric Gray at No. 103 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid a round early for Spencer Rattler in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach for Kitan Oladapo in the 141st overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Brennan Jackson in No. 149; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
AJ Barner at Round 5, Pick 18 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kamal Hadden at pick No. 183 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
