The Caedan Wallace pick is the one that will follow the Giants into the fall. They took him 62 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
Getting Sainristil where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Rome Odunze in No. 47 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Laiatu Latu still on the board at slot 70. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Javon Bullard at the 71st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Kris Abrams-Draine in pick No. 72, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Max Melton at par in the 77th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
A running back of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 6 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 107 with a little surplus value in Cole Bishop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
AJ Barner in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Mike Sainristil in No. 146 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Caedan Wallace in pick 150, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Anthony Gould at slot 168 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let an edge rusher like Brennan Jackson reach the 182nd pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Sataoa Laumea in Round 6, Pick 8 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Trente Jones at pick No. 194 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Joe Milton III in pick 203, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Myles Cole at No. 208 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow M.J. Devonshire was still sitting there in the 214th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Erick All at slot 224 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 239th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Curtis Jacobs in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A tidy bit of business in slot 255, where KT Leveston graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jowon Briggs at the 256th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 257 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
