Thirty-one other rooms let Jarvis Brownlee Jr. slide, and the Giants were the ones holding the card at slot 199. Highway robbery. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The Guerendo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
In the 16th pick they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick 20 they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
They barely believed it either: Terrion Arnold still on the board at pick No. 39. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Quinyon Mitchell was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 13, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Roman Wilson at the 47th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Tyler Nubin in slot 70, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Renardo Green. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 113th pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Chris Braswell in No. 115 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cooper Beebe in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Brenden Rice reach Round 4, Pick 21 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 140 with a little surplus value in Theo Johnson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyler Davis in the 142nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Sataoa Laumea here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Spencer Rattler all the way to No. 151, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Isaac Guerendo enough to skip the value, taking him in the 167th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Javon Solomon at slot 185 for years; that is how good the value is. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Andru Phillips at the 186th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Javon Foster at slot 187 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ty'Ron Hopper in pick No. 188. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Walter Rouse at the 200th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Luke McCaffrey in pick 201 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylan Ford at Round 7, Pick 2 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A tight end of that caliber at No. 224 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
