The board owed the Giants one, and it paid up: Luther Burden III, the No. 9 name on the board, sitting there at pick 70 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Reaching for Williams left real value on the table behind him. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter.
Carson Beck in No. 38 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Luther Burden III at the 70th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 105; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A conviction pick on Gentry Williams at Round 4, Pick 12 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Hunter Wohler at the 134th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
