The real work happened on the phones. The Giants fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The Williams pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The Milton III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In the end it comes back to Jared Verse, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get juice off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Legette in slot 42. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Graham Barton in pick 49, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Brenden Rice in the 70th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Payton Wilson in the 82nd overall pick, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They read the board right and Audric Estime was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 10. The roster fit checks out.
Dominick Puni in slot 117 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Max Melton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joe Milton III in the 143rd pick, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalyx Hunt in No. 153 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Somehow James Williams was still sitting there in pick No. 160, and they pounced on premier safety value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Austin Stogner in pick 185 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Ethan Driskell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
