The Giants clearly saw something nobody else did in Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, taking him 45 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Corley at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left interior defensive lineman open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get the face of the franchise at a price that makes it sweeter.
In the 15th overall pick they get a true top target, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 16 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a double-digit-sack hope, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, T.J. Tampa in the 43rd pick. It fills a real need, too.
Patrick Paul in the 45th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kris Jenkins at Round 2, Pick 15 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Edgerrin Cooper graded well above the range. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jonathon Brooks at pick No. 71 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cooper Beebe at pick 84 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malachi Corley at the 108th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Renardo Green at slot 116, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Austin Booker in slot 137 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had cheaper options than Theo Johnson at pick 140, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Andru Phillips in the 148th overall pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Jaylen Wright at pick No. 185 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
