You could see the war room lean forward. Kamren Kinchens at the 85th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will need Sinnott to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get a wrecking ball inside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in No. 39, where Bo Nix graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Amarius Mims all the way to pick 47, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
T.J. Tampa in the 70th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Kamren Kinchens at the 85th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Edgerrin Cooper in Round 3, Pick 23 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Blake Fisher in pick No. 114. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Ben Sinnott, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a cornerback like Max Melton reach the 133rd overall pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Austin Booker in the 138th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Theo Johnson at No. 143 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Joe Milton III still on the board at pick No. 185. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Brennan Jackson, who had no business lasting to slot 186. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kimani Vidal at Round 6, Pick 29 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Christian Jones at the Round 6 slot is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They let Jawhar Jordan come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Isaiah Williams in the 247th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
