The Caedan Wallace selection is the head-turner. The Giants reached 50 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Put together, it is a D.
The McMillan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
In No. 26 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 29th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They barely believed it either: Cooper DeJean still on the board at the Round 2 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Adonai Mitchell in the 49th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at Round 2, Pick 18, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Bo Nix in Round 3, Pick 9 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the 90th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Trey Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for T.J. Tampa here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Cole Bishop in pick No. 106, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Blake Fisher at No. 108 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javon Baker at pick 114 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Maason Smith was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 5, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Brennan Jackson in the 146th pick, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jalen McMillan at pick No. 160 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Caedan Wallace at the 162nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Joe Milton III a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
